Our team

Laurel Sim, PMP
Managing Partner and President
Laurel is a Taleo partner and began her work with Taleo back in 2010. Laurel has more than 20 years of experience as an award-winning Program Manager and Senior Project Executive. She has a proven track record of exceeding business objectives and expectations while bringing a focus on innovation. Laurel’s expertise and passion for quality has become a pillar of Taleo’s identity and she is a big driver behind how we engage with both clients and consultants. Outside of her work with Taleo, Laurel volunteers a great deal of her time helping to further educate others through speaking engagements, mentorship, and workshops. To recharge Laurel spends her free time at her family’s farm, playing sports, running with her dog Goose, and travelling.

Ryan Buchan
Partner and Account Executive
Ryan brought his talent, drive, and positive personality to Taleo in 2013. Starting in the role of Recruitment Specialist Ryan’s role evolved into Account Manager where he supports clients through the entire lifecycle of their project needs, and has now become a Partner of Taleo in the spring of 2022. When Ryan isn’t off traveling the world making memories he can be found walking his dog or playing a sport. It is Ryan’s sharp wit and desire to always be learning that makes him a key piece to the Taleo team.

Chris Mills
Account Executive
Chris joined the Taleo team in early 2024 as a Senior Account Executive. He is an accomplished professional with over a decade of experience in the technology staffing and solutions industry. With a solid background in business planning, communication, and a diverse skill set, Chris has demonstrated expertise in driving business outcomes and delivering exceptional client service. When he is not out finding new business for Taleo, Chris can generally be found at a rink either playing or coaching hockey, or at the dog park with his pup Paco.

Karen Pagenkopf
Financial Controller/Contract Manager
Karen came to Taleo in 2014 and has been in Office Management for over 25 years. It was her kind nature and passion to make everyone around her a success that proved she was the perfect fit for Taleo. She is focused on doing things right the first time and always has time to support Taleo’s team of consultants. She loves cooking, camping, and spending time with her fur babies and family. Fortunately for Taleo, we get to be a part of that family.

Mia Rae
Resource Manager
Mia joined the Taleo team in the fall of 2021. It was Mia’s strong intuition and hard work ethic that made it is an easy decision to bring her into the fold. With her past experience working in the hospitality industry as an event planner, we know she will help drive Taleo forward in style. Outside of work, you’ll find her out doing any one of her favourite activities, such as dirt biking, mountain biking, and snowboarding. She’s always up for an adventure and loves trying new sports.

Leah Morcom
Resource Manager
Leah joined Taleo in March 2025. With a degree in Psychology, Leah brings a deep understanding of the human element, allowing her to connect with individuals meaningfully and foster their growth. Her passion lies in truly getting to know people and shining a light on their unique talents and capabilities. Outside of work, Leah loves spending time in nature, often exploring the river valley with her adorable dog, Ollie. She’s as dedicated to her craft as she is to creating memorable moments with those around her. With Leah’s insightful perspective and vibrant energy, we’re excited to see the positive impact she’ll have on both our team and clients at Taleo!

Jennifer Grabo
Resource Assistant
Jennifer is a dedicated Taleo Resource Assistant who thrives on supporting the team, clients, and consultants with enthusiasm and expertise. A sports-loving mom, she brings her passion for teamwork both to the office and the golf course. In the summer, you’ll often find her perfecting her swing—unless it’s windy, because no one should have to golf in the wind!

Derek Scovell
Business Analyst and Junior Project Manager
Derek is a driven Business Analyst and Junior Project Manager at Taleo, passionate about learning and transforming knowledge into impactful action. A proud Calgary native, he’s a die-hard Flames fan who brings that same energy to his work. In his free time, you’ll find him biking through any weather—even the rain (crazy, right?).

Patrizia Coppola
Financial Analyst
Patrizia joined our team back in 2013 and although she is more of a team member behind the scenes, her CPA and wealth of knowledge and expertise are such a huge asset to the Taleo team. She is on call for Taleo and never lets us down. Patrizia’s full time role as taxi service, cook, baker, crafter, and Mom to two wonderful girls, keeps her smiling, happy and busy.
